“Our Biggest Fight: Dying To Self & The Power of Surrendering” Part 5

If I had to use one word to describe the process of deliverance and the essence of this Christian walk, I’d use one word: Dying.

In pursuing my physical transformation, I’m becoming quite accustomed to this word.  I’ve gone through so many processes in overcoming obesity: 1) being obedient to God’s call to break the bondage of morbid obesity over my life and finally acting on it 2) developing a plan to help me overcome 3) sitting at the Lord’s feet to transform my mind and confronting/receiving healing over former and current wounds 4) identifying and up rooting strongholds in my life and in this last stage, 5) the continual state of DYING to EVERYTHING standing in the way of God’s Promises for my life.

Now more than ever, I truly understand that if I want anything from Christ, desire a new thing, want or need deliverance over a certain area, in need of healing, desperate to receive God’s promises, whatever that thing is, I could do the first 4 steps above all day long, but the key component to accomplishing anything great for the Lord is my willingness to be in a continual state of surrendering, dying and obeying what God is calling me from, step by step, to what He’s calling me to.

In this final stage of completing my transformation, I’m learning that this one principal will ALWAYS remain true in everything I do: whatever I want from God, it will only come to me through a process of surrendering and dying to myself and obeying what Christ is calling me to. As Christians, the bible say’s we’re to die DAILY, second to second, moment to moment, not just once in a while.

What does “Dying” mean?

To relinquish life, to give up, to no longer feel or exist, to desist, throw in the towel, submit, abandon and surrender completely.

Spiritually, dying means to become deadened and unattached to everything you are, everything you want, even you’re own personal rights, dreams, agendas and even offences.  Dying means letting God have complete control and autonomy over your life, even when it hurts, even when it isn’t fair and you don’t understand the events happening in your life.  As Christians, we can’t get caught up with what we think, feel or want, our job is to submit, follow, trust and allow Christ to have His way so He can finish His great work in us.

This is the name of the game when you sign up to be a Christian. It’s not comfortable, convenient or fair, AND, it hurts A LOT sometimes. It’s a continuous state of denying yourself, picking up your cross and following Jesus and where He’s sending you. In overcoming obesity, I’m learning some hardcore lessons of dying that’ll carry me in life, keep me grounded in this Christian race and will help me gain the victory over EVERYTHING trying to overcome me.

AND, I’ve noticed that when I tell my flesh no, die to something that I want, or, just plainly let go or surrender to God on a particular issue that’s either pressing, stressing or hurting me, I feel the supernatural power of God building me up.  Moreover, I noticed that when I obey God and fall in line with what He’s asking of me, the doors of opportunity open.

Furthermore, when I let go and die to something, I actually feel a divine exchange.  I give up something for Jesus and in turn, He’s giving me something. Despite how painful the process is, there’s beauty in death because it births new life. I heard someone say something profound, “Jesus died for us, now, He’s looking for us to die for Him….” WOW!

We all battle with something, but today, right now, we have to get out of our own way.  Today, if you hear His voice, don’t harden your heart, choose to let go of something plaguing you and surrender it to God. Christ is trying to give us more, something we’ve never had, but the only way we can get it is through obedience and death. We have power to change and assist Him in changing and transforming our own lives.  We can do it, let’s be courageous, resolve to take that first step and Believe!
