“The 3rd Step To Overcoming: Knowing vs. Walking In Power”

3527b4766b34ece1d2cc5627efc093d7I have to be honest, KNOWING of the power of Christ verses fully WALKING in the Power of Christ to overcome are truly two different things.  As a church, this is one of the main areas where we’re ineffective…we haven’t fully tapped in and grasped the concept of what Christ did for us on the Cross and the Power He’s given us over EVERYTHING. This is my struggle…walking out what Christ has taught me and walking in it consistently.

Even though I’ve made tremendous victories in my weight loss efforts, I’m still struggling with one thing that’s been counter-productive…Sleep Eating. I’ve conquered it before, but now, I’ve caved in a couple of times and now I’m finding it harder and harder to break that habit. It’s a stronghold.  It’s a stronghold that’s plagued me all of my life. God has spoken to me about it. I have a full understanding that I have power to break that habit.  I already know that sin is no longer my master…I’m made new and I don’t have to follow my flesh any-longer…the curse of my flesh was crucified with Christ on the cross so I’m free from the curse of sin and death….So what’s the problem? The problem is my flesh wants whatever I’m eating and at times, I want it.  When I’m half asleep and get a food craving, I give in and don’t fight the urge off because I REALLY WANT IT so I cave into temptation.

That right there, this is my fight.  It’s me fighting myself and the enemy provoking the problem not to mention the guilt that plagues me in the morning, A-R-R-G-G-H-H-H! Sometimes in the morning I feel like the Hulk wanting to growl and rip my shirt out of frustration, sheesh! It’s a vicious cycle: to want to do right and knowing what you’re doing is wrong, but your heart doesn’t want to do it any-longer, but, your flesh is calling, so you give in.  Inwardly, you want to change but you keep falling. Honestly, I empathize with those that struggle with addictions, weight loss struggles at times can be no different and the end is the same, our demise.

Sometimes, it’s just easier to give into a craving than to just tell your flesh no, but honestly, the pain that’s inflicted in your soul that you can’t control or get control over something is simply crushing.  In the end, the reality is, it’s agonizing staying in bondage…so you’re always torn and that’s the fight. To want to do right and can’t, OR, when you purpose in your heart to do right and do the complete opposite…Double A-R-R-G-G-H-H-H and a double Hulk Moment!

Many people don’t chalk up weight problems as a spiritual thing or addiction, but I’m here to tell you, it is. Why do you think there’s so many obese people especially in the body of Christ? There’s ton’s of people that can’t get a grip on successfully losing weight, including myself for years. We’re simply, including myself, not looking at weight struggles the right way and fighting the problem appropriately. Conquering years or decades of obesity is a spiritual thing and requires spiritual warfare.

So, how do I gain the strength to overcome what’s overcoming me????

This is what the Lord is telling me:

  1. Sitting at the Lord’s feet and tapping into His power through Prayer and Fasting. You have to commit to prayer and fasting to see the change. I’ve stopped fasting for a little bit, but I gotta get back on the bandwagon if I want to overcome.
  2. The Word! Finding scripture that’ll minister to that struggle to break that stronghold.
  3.  Saying No and keep saying No standing on the Word!  When tempted, at that moment, resort to prayer. This I’m doing sometimes but I can’t go back and forth with the enemy, I must consistently say No.
  4. FOCUS! Focus on what the Word say’s, speak it and keep speaking it until the temptation passes, this I’m doing at times but not consistently.
  5. Repeat until you’re free.  I let my guard down, fell and now I’m back at square one. The devil’s not playing with me, so I can’t allow myself to slip back into sin again or let my guard down, that was my downfall.

So today, I’m ministering to myself along with those struggling. Here’s a scripture The Lord’s ministering to me. I pray it’ll help you as it’s helping me.

Ephesians 1: 3 (NLT)

Spiritual Blessings
3 All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ. 4 Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. 5 God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure. 6 So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son.[b] 7 He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins. 8 He has showered his kindness on us, along with all wisdom and understanding.

9 God has now revealed to us his mysterious will regarding Christ—which is to fulfill his own good plan. 10 And this is the plan: At the right time he will bring everything together under the authority of Christ—everything in heaven and on earth. 11 Furthermore, because we are united with Christ, we have received an inheritance from God,[c] for he chose us in advance, and he makes everything work out according to his plan.

What this scripture is saying is that we already have what’s needed to overcome. As we’re in Christ, we have EVERY spiritual blessing in the heavenly world at our disposal.  How touching is the love of God and what’s He’s already done for us in Christ…the provision He’s already given us…all of Heaven and the access to Heaven is ours because we’re united with in Christ. In my fight to overcome, I have to believe…we have to believe and take hold of what He’s saying in our hearts. It’s ours for the taking…Believe and Walk it out.  Continue to join me and pray for me, The Lord has more to say in our fight to overcome and see our wildest dreams come to reality.
