“Search Your Heart” Part 3

love-580248_960_720Your heart can take on a mind of it’s own. I never realized how active and living my heart is and how it can literally control everything I do. After many failed relationships in the past, when I rededicated my life to Christ in 2002, I was determined to break that cycle. It wasn’t until I fasted, prayed and committed to singleness did God show me my heart and it’s tendency to wonder from Him…but this week, He revealed to me for the first time WHAT my heart was searching for.

It’s been a long time to get to this point, matter of fact, years in the making. During 2015, the Lord began to speak to me about this scripture:

Ezekiel 14:3,4,6
3 “Son of man, these leaders have set up idols[a] in their hearts. They have embraced things that will make them fall into sin. Why should I listen to their requests? 4 Tell them, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: The people… have set up idols in their hearts and fallen into sin…6 “Therefore, tell the people of Israel, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Repent and turn away from your idols, and stop all your detestable sins.

After reading this scripture, I began to ask the Lord for myself ‘What idols do I have have hidden in my heart? According to cbn.com,

“An idol is any person, object or activity you give a higher priority in your life than a relationship with God. An idol can be your home, your job, a vehicle, a relationship, or even your family. An idol can be a pet, a computer, or what you look at on that computer. An idol can be alcohol, drugs, sex, or any sin. An idol can be the work you do for the Lord that consumes all your energy and time. God says He’s a jealous God. He wants our time and attention.”

At that time, God was showing me ME! After really searching my heart, there were idols in my own heart I needed to dethrone. But He also wanted to show me the condition of the the hearts of His people and how to intercede on the behalf of His Saints.

The Lord said to me, ” My Body has fallen into idolatry and they don’t even know it. They pursue many things, but they don’t pursue me. They have found ‘things’ to take my place. Their comfort lies in the things they have acquired and not me, the source and giver of those ‘things.’ Their hearts need me for they are grasping at straws and beating the wind, but their hearts are never satisfied…so they continue to search for things that will help them…but they’re never satisfied. I’m calling out to them, but they won’t come to me for help…so they continue to wander and they never find rest or release…they forfeit all that I can and will do for them if only they stop running and return to me…they no longer look to me for help. How I long and grieve for my people…how I long for my people…how I long to help heal and make them whole but they reject my help…I’m vexed that my people refuse me…I desire that my people long and reach for me again so I can heal their soul and truly show them my Salvation….”

Most of us have idols in our hearts and lives and we don’t even know it. Food is an idol. If I run to food to find comfort in my distress, it’s my idol. Former boyfriends have been my idol. Drinking at one point in my past became my idol. Being busy in the church at one point became my idol.

Whatever we put before God is our idol, even with the best intentions. Whatever we run to in place of God is our idol. Whatever we treasure more than God is our idol. Whatever we choose over God becomes our idol.

For the best Christian, these are not things we set out to do…you just don’t blatantly decide “oh, I need an idol in my life…I want ‘something else’ besides God….” But through the course of our lives, whatever things we don’t deal with in our hearts, comes out in our actions, hence, the tendency to form idols.

Here are some hard core questions the Lord wants us to ask and seek Him about. This is the beginning in getting to the root of our struggles and realign us back with Him:

  • Lord, have I created idols in my heart and life?
  • What are my idols?
  • How do I put these things above or in place of you?
  • Reveal to me what I won’t let You touch in my life?
  • Reveal to me the things I’m running from?
  • Reveal to me those hidden things that stand in my way of me getting to my promise-land?
  • What is my heart searching for?
  • What do I need to do to be in Your Will and Purpose?
  • Show me the things that cause me to stumble?
  • Show me what I need to do to break vicious cycles in my life?
  • How do I partner with you for my own breakthrough and deliverance?
  • What are you requiring of me?

God is calling us higher. He desires to give us new hearts and new spirits for the things to come. He wants us to fulfill our purpose upon the earth…the original reason why he created us in the first place. He want’s to deliver us from our afflictions, strongholds, oppression, brokenness, disappointments etc…but if we want these things…we have to put in the work and be willing to go through to get the prize.

I’m hungry to get to the next level, ARE YOU?

This is what He’s required of me…this is also what He’s requiring of YOU:

  • Seek Him like never before in prayer, fasting and reading his word
  • Search Our Hearts and let him reveal what’s hidden in those secret places
  • Ask him for courage, strength and boldness to go through our process
  • Let him touch and heal what hurts…And stop running
  • Ask those hard questions above…if you can’t or won’t ask God those questions, that is an indication of something…
  • Be obedient to what He’s asking of you
  • Keep going until you see your promise

Jeremiah 29:12-14 (NLT)

12 In those days when you pray, I will listen. 13 If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me. 14 I will be found by you,” says the Lord. “I will end your captivity and restore your fortunes. I will gather you out of the nations where I sent you and will bring you home again to your own land.”

Lauren Daigle – First (Lyric Video)

Stay with me…God has more to say and let’s become free together.
