“The Journey To Obtaining Your Promise-land: Make A Commitment & No Longer Intermarry The Enemy” Part 16

Every book of the Bible The Lord leads me to read, He takes me on a journey.  While journeying through Nehemiah, there are several scriptures that have leaped out at me, today, I’ll share with you one.

Nehemiah 10:28-30 (GNT) says,

“We, the people of Israel, the priests, the Levites, the Temple guards, the Temple musicians, the Temple workers, and all others who in obedience to God’s Law have separated themselves from the foreigners living in our land, we, together with our wives and all our children old enough to understand, 29 do hereby join with our leaders in an oath, under penalty of a curse if we break it, that we will live according to God’s Law, which God gave through his servant Moses; that we will obey all that the Lord, our Lord, commands us; and that we will keep all his laws and requirements.

30 We will not intermarry with the foreigners living in our land.”

As I was reading that scripture, The Lord convicted my heart about my habit of intermarrying with the enemy.

Throughout my journey of overcoming obesity, I’ve always wavered in giving up sugar. So in this sense, I intermarry with sugar, something The Lord has spoken to me about and something He’s called me from. I’ll give it up for a few months and then, the habit returns.  I know sugar is a emotional trigger for me, so more than it just hindering my weight loss efforts, it triggers something in my flesh and then my flesh begins to override my spirit in being disciplined and having self control and I then have a hard time telling my flesh NO.

In this scripture, Nehemiah and the Israelite’s have rebuilt the long destroyed walls of Israel, even with much opposition, they did it.  Here we see in this scripture them vowing to no longer entangle themselves with foreigners in the land, for if they do, The Lord  will allow them to be destroyed by them again.

Question The Lord is asking all of us, “In what ways are you intermarrying with the enemy?”

In other words, what areas in our lives are we in agreement with the enemy?

Lesson in this, what we entertain, co-exist with and intermarry regarding enemy, we give him legal right to reign and give him power.  So if God is calling us from something and we hold onto it, we give IT power to reign in our lives and ultimately, we destroy ourselves and our destinies in the process.

As the Israelite’s did, we have to make a commitment to God and keep our commitments.  I know God is calling me to re-commit that issue of sugar I’ve been battling with all my life. Will you commit too?

He will honor our commitments and give us grace to keep them, but we have to LET GO of anything trying to take hold of us, God’s promises, our destines are awaiting.
